Dev Log Highlight: Windows Infrastructure Locked In

Dice Link logo above the tagline ‘Your Dice. Your Roll. Any Table.’ and the words ‘Dev Log Post’, set against a purple fantasy background with a glowing crystalline d20 resting beside an open dice tray.

It’s fortnight two of the Dev Log Highlights, and this time the news is all about groundwork paying off.

The core infrastructure for the Windows version of Dice Link is now complete. That’s the unglamorous but essential plumbing that lets the app actually run and install properly on a Windows machine, and it’s now done and working.

Meanwhile, work on the dice recognition system itself keeps moving. The system is being taught two separate skills: spotting a die in a photo, and working out which face is showing. To learn either one, it needs to see thousands of labelled photos first, most of them hand-labelled, die by die, face by face. We’ve now built a smarter way of feeding that photo library into the cloud, so the “which face is showing” training can start early rather than waiting for the whole library to be finished. D4s and D6s are fully labelled, with D8s underway now.

It’s slow, careful work, but it’s exactly the foundation the recognition system needs to get reliable.
