Dev Log Highlight: Recognition System’s First Real Test

Dice Link logo above the tagline ‘Your Dice. Your Roll. Any Table.’ and the words ‘Dev Log Post’, set against a purple fantasy background with a glowing crystalline d20 resting beside an open dice tray.

Every fortnight we post a full dev log on our Discord. Here’s the headline from the latest one.

We ran the dice recognition system through its first proper test and got our first real numbers back. It correctly spotted that a die was present 95% of the time, and got its position right 89% of the time. Our initial ‘dice spotting’ efforts yielded 80% accuracy so this is a good increase.

Working out exactly which die it’s looking at is the part we’re still fighting. Right now, the computer guesses more than anything and it’s wrong way more often than we want.  That’s the next piece the team is focused on, and really, it’s the one that matters most for the whole system to actually be useful.

Early days, but this is the first time we’ve had numbers to test the whole pipeline against rather than individual pieces in isolation, and that’s a real milestone in itself.

There’s more behind this in the full dev log, including exactly what’s changing to push that number up. Join us on Discord to read the whole thing and follow along as it happens.

If you have something to add to this, come along and join the conversation over on Discord.
